New dad Carl Garrard and I did a quick hike in O'Neill Park early Saturday morning. He may be used to being sleep-deprived, but I'm not. Anyway, it's clear that it is peak season for wildflowers in out area. Above is a photo of a chocolate lily I took a while back. These seem to blend in with the surrounding brush and are easy to miss but an attentive eye will find them in the grassy areas of the chaparral.
Oooh! Gorgeous shot of a chocolate lily. It looks cocoa-hued with a tint of mauve. It's my fav spring wildflower along the Trans Preserve trail at the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve here in our neck of the woods in SW Riverside County.

Thanks Arleen, it's also my favorite. I like the subtle colors. I think the Santa Rosa Plateau has one of the largest populations of the chocolate lily in southern California. Although the photo was taken near my house on the other side of the hills, I usually head out your way and go to the SRP when I want to be sure to see these awesome flowers.
